Training at my local gym I see some strange exercises but the “routine” I saw tonight has to go down as one of the bestc collections of weird exercises I have ever seen. What makes this worse is that it was a personal trainer taking a young woman through the routine. My “favourite” exercise was on the chest press machine, it was 2-3 inch (5-7.5 cm) lockouts for time. I didn’t actually check how long the sets were (I think they were about 30 seconds,) I was trying to work out what they were trying to accomplish - I still have no idea.

I was surprised the other week, when I saw that Wayne (yes there are two of us) had put a full colour ad detailing my coaching services in a local magazine. I thought I would put up an image but I do have to apologise for the mediocre scan.

I saw this on a poster at a school I teach at and though people may be interested in a Japanese version of the food pyramid or in this case a food cone. It is being introduced by Pikachu, so the information is (I think) aimed at children. Obviously it is no big surprise to see that variations of rice and ramen are shown in the largest to eat carbohydrate category, but It is interesting to see that fruit and dairy are the foods that should be eaten least.

Just because you have a certain level of fitness when you do your normal physical training, it does not necessarily mean that you will be able to demonstrate a similar level of fitness when you do another activity. For example, if you normally cycle for your fitness, you train your body to be efficient and effective when you are on a cycle but when you need to run (unless you also run regularly,) you may find that your cycling fitness does not cross over to the same level.
This does not mean that your training is totally wasted on another activity, only that your body has adapted to a certain movement pattern and set of demands. Once you train the new movement patterns, you will find that your previous training has paid off.
