One of the best ways to help reduce stress is to start training. Stress is a contributing factor in many diseases and illnesses and exercise helps to counter the negative effects that stress has on our mind and body.
Even a light workout or a walk in the park can be beneficial. By increasing the intensity of the exercise our body begins to release endorphins, which makes us feel happier and this also has a beneficial effect on your stress levels. Further as your levels of fitness increase, you are also able to handle more stress both in body and mind.

I have just been listening to some of the fantastic fitness, nutrition and motivational presentations on the first day of the FitComXpo. Although it is presented live from the US, I will be listening to replays of the presentations on my ipod (they are on too late at night for me to properly function.) If you’re interested in health and fitness, you should check, it out. Don’t worry that the expo is on now, if you decide to sign up, you will have access to the presentations for 3 months and you can download them to you computer and play them at any time. Also you don’t need to be a fitness expert to get the benefit of the presentations, there are a large number of presentations that are aimed at the general public and focused on your goals, for example fat loss, muscle gain or having a fit and healthy pregnancy .

I was reading a very interesting post over at BrainReady.com and thought I had to share it with you. The article discusses the value of video games (yes, you read correctly video games) in relation to brain health. The article gives a number of research based benefits to playing video games. This does not mean you have a reason to reduce your levels of physical activity in favour of playing video games, but it certainly made me think about finding a game to play, preferably one that I can set time limits on.
The article is definitely worth a read and you can check it out here.

Do you time yourself between sets of resistance or interval training? If your program says to have 60 seconds rest between sets or 180 seconds rest, do you actually take this time or do you take a near enough approach?
Your program has been designed with a certain goal in mind and your rest between sets has been given as an integral element within the program. Different rest periods are going to allow for different levels of recovery of the energy system and the muscles, so don’t disregard your rest timing.
For the next 12 weeks try timing your rest periods and see if it makes an impact on your results.

This cool pushup variation comes courtesy of EDT creator Charles Staley. I have to admit I also like the continuing “one more” approach.
Have Fun!
