Health In The News

Feb 15, 2008 @ 10:25 pm by wayne

A recent study suggests that obese children who undergo weight loss, will not suffer the bone loss that some adults suffer and in fact continue gaining bone density as they are loosing weight. Given the other benefits of fat loss for these children, any concern about potential bone loss should not stop them from attempting to loose the fat.

Another interesting study is suggesting that the biological age of people who keep fit is up to 9 years less than people who do not keep fit. Add to this the health benefits in respect to disease prevention etc, there is no excuse for not keeping fit

Exercise Workshop – Renegade Rows

Feb 14, 2008 @ 06:09 pm by wayne

This interesting pushup and row combination is a great upper body workout by itself which incorporates balance, body control, and scapular strength. The model is using PowerBlock dumbbells, which I aim to have in my gym. Hex style dumbbells are also great for this exercise because they’re much more stable than conventional round dumbbells. However, if you really want to hammer your stabilizers, you can use conventional dumbbells or kettlebells. A varation on this exercise is to perform one row (instead of two) between each pushup. This video comes courtesy of Charles Staley of EDT (Escalating Density Training) fame.
