Taking some time off from your weight training program is one of the best things you can do to keep your motivation high and ensure your progress. Depending on how long you have been training and the intensity at which you train, you may find taking up to a week off every four to twelve weeks to be very beneficial.
An off week does not mean that you do absolutely no activity for the week, instead this is a great time to do something different – take a yoga or pilates class or have a hit of tennis with your friends.

One of the rules in “The New Rules of Lifting” by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove is to do something you like. If you are doing an activity that you like, you will be much more likely to continue to do it. On the other hand, if you are doing something you don’t like, how long will it be before you stop doing it?
Please don’t think that this gives you an out from doing a specific type of training e.g. resistance training. What it does mean is you have to find a training regime that you like. Your personal trainer or gym instructor could help you out in this case.

I really enjoyed the movie 300 and was impressed by the physiques of the actors. In this vid, you can see some of their training. Would I do some of these exercise variations – no but this is still good fun.
