A recent very small study has found that there is a link between taking glucosamine tablets and insulin resistance in people who are obese. Increased insulin resistance means that your body does not respond to insulin and your blood sugars go up and is a factor in type 2 Diabetes. Normal weight individuals showed no changes in their insulin resistance. Glucosamine tablets are often taken for osteoarthritis. Although this was a small study that needs to be confirmed by further research, it does highlight the need to be aware of all the potential effects of the supplements you are taking.

Have you ever said, “I don’t want to get too big” or “I don’t want to look like a fitness model “? Well, in that case you need not worry about it ever happening. The basics of self development focus on attitude and the words you use to yourself (the inner dialogue that goes on in your head) and while talking to others. You need to be aware that any limiting belief that you have will limit the outcome of whatever goal you pursue.

There has been a movement by a number of trainers toward performing strength training movements while using Swiss balls and other stability training tools. Doing these exercises is certainly entertaining but the value of these exercises for improving strength, speed or agility is questionable. Swiss balls and other stability devices do have value e.g. using a Swiss ball to increase the range of motion of a crunch but they should not be the primary focus of your program.

Good nutrition is without a doubt the most important aspect of changing your body composition. The bottom line is that if you eat poorly, you won’t be able to achieve your goals, even if you’re training hard.

In
terval training entails alternating short periods of high intensity/speed work with short periods of low intensity activity. It can be performed on a treadmill, stationary cycle, rower etc. or on the track. An example of an interval session would be to do a warm-up, then alternate doing 20-60 seconds of high intensity work on stationary bike followed by 10-120 seconds of low intensity work and repeat the cycle for up to 20-30 minutes, then do your warm-down. Interval training works both the aerobic and the anaerobic systems, and it is considered to be superior method for fat loss.
It is not an easy workout method so if you decide to try it, build up slowly.
