I saw this on a poster at a school I teach at and though people may be interested in a Japanese version of the food pyramid or in this case a food cone. It is being introduced by Pikachu, so the information is (I think) aimed at children. Obviously it is no big surprise to see that variations of rice and ramen are shown in the largest to eat carbohydrate category, but It is interesting to see that fruit and dairy are the foods that should be eaten least.

If your interested in getting the most out of your green tea, you should check out this post from Mike Roussell. I’m a big fan of green tea and given that I am living in Japan that is a very good thing. When I’m home I’m like Mike and reuse my green tea teabags. When I’m out and about (especially in summer) I often just go to a convenience store and have my choice of a huge variety of cold green teas. Mike is the author of The Naked Nutrition Guide and co-author of Warp Speed Fat Loss and he really knows his stuff.

Here’s another nutrition tip from Dr John Berardi, author of the Precision Nutrition system.
Tip #6
The Organic Debate
by Dr. John Berardi
The average person should consume two pieces of fruit and three servings of vegetables per day as a minimum. Athletes probably need even more - I recommend 10-15 servings per day for each of my athletes. Expert often spend too much time arguing about organic vs. regular fruits and veggies. I agree that raw, organic fruits and vegetables are best since they have a higher micronutrient count, but any fruits and veggies are better than none! Get sufficient fruits and vegetables in your diet before worrying about whether they’re organic or not. Once you’ve done that, worry on.

Tip #5
The 10% Factor
by Dr. John Berardi
If some people eat one food not on their plan, their failure to be perfect sets in motion a psychological chain of events that leads to frustration and the inability to get right back on the plan. The all-or-nothing mentality sets in and BAM, they’re back to nothing. But it doesn’t have to be this way. 100% nutritional discipline is never required for optimal progress. The difference, in results, between 90% adherence to your nutrition program and 100% adherence is negligible. So allow yourself the extra 10% wiggle room. This will allow you the freedom to eat a few extra things not on your menu without the guilt and subsequent crash.

In a recent blog post Mike Roussell, author of The Naked Nutriton Guide discussed the value of eating locally produced produce rather that eating certified organic food. I think there is a lot of benefit in eating truly fresh (just picked) produce compared to that which you get in your local supermarket. It’s an interesting read and definitely worth checking out.
