Weight Belts – A Rant
I was training last night and noticed a couple of people that were wearing weight belts. In limited situations, a belt does have it’s place but not when you are doing bicep curls or using weight machines.
Given that weight belts properly used are designed to give support to your lower back while under considerable load (think max squats and overhead pressing) why do people use them for submax benching and curls. I can understand using a belt if you are powerlifting but in general training under submax loads, it limits your own body’s ability to handle load when you don’t have a belt on. To me, it just doesn’t make sense.
Also just because other people wear the, it doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea.
End of rant.
